Union Minister of State for Coal and Mines reviews IBM Nagpur's functioning, says need to attain self-reliance in critical minerals

On his first visit to the Indian Bureau of Mines headquarters in Nagpur, Shri Satish Chandra Dubey reviewed its functioning and directed that vacant posts be filled. The Press Information Bureau recorded his assessment of India's dependence on imported critical minerals:

"While India is making significant strides towards coal self-reliance, the same is not true for critical minerals. I believe that we are taking steps in that direction but more needs to be done."PIB release 2196090 · 28 November 2025

Ministry of Coal launches 16th round of commercial coal mine auctions; executes CMDPAs for six coal mines

As Chief Guest he launched the 16th round, which offers 25 blocks across nine states. With the Secretary, Ministry of Coal, he handed over Coal Mine Development and Production Agreements for six mines. The release records 147 coal mines auctioned to date, and reports him noting that coal production had crossed one billion tonnes for the second consecutive year.

Chhattisgarh Strengthens Its Role in India's Critical Mineral Ecosystem

At the programme, where Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai was Chief Guest, the release reports that the Minister of State highlighted the strategic importance of critical and strategic minerals for economic growth, industrial development, the clean energy transition and emerging technologies.

Launch of the eighth tranche of auction of 20 critical and strategic mineral blocks

With the Union Minister he launched the eighth tranche: 20 blocks across nine states. The release notes 88 critical mineral blocks offered in total, of which 56 had been auctioned. It reports him describing mining as a key pillar of nation-building and energy security.

Visit to South Eastern Coalfields Limited

In Raipur he paid a courtesy visit to Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai, and they discussed land acquisition and rehabilitation for coal projects. At SECL he laid a foundation stone at Dipka and virtually flagged off a low-height continuous miner at Chirimiri. At Churcha mine he inaugurated a main mechanical ventilator and bio-toilets for women.

Mines Ministry Launches Fourth Tranche of Auction of Critical and Strategic Minerals

Shri G. Kishan Reddy and the Minister of State launched the fourth tranche, 21 blocks in all: 11 fresh and 10 offered again. They also declared the preferred bidders for six blocks of the first tranche. S&T-PRISM sanction letters were handed to ten start-ups and MSMEs the same day.
